Miracle Snow has been such a fun horse to have and we really enjoy having the opportunity to run him. Thank you and Congratulations to Melvin and Mary Neugebauer!!!

All American Trials 2010

The trials for the All American Futurity were held on Thursday, August 19th at Ruidoso Downs. We had 10 horses entered in the 20 trials. We drew trials 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 15, 18, and 20. And this is how it went with the wind. Trials 1 through 12 had anywhere between a 4 to 10 mph head wind. The wind decided to switch directions during trial 13 to a 3 mph tail wind, there was no wind during trials 14 and 15, trial 16 there was a 3 mph head wind, trial 17 there was a 5 mph head wind, trial 18 had no wind, trial 19 there was a 4 mph head wind, and a slight head wind in trial 20.

Our horses ran really good for the most part. We had 3 second place finishes with Arizona Hottie, owned by Melvin and Mary Neugebauer, in trial 3, with Brookstone Flash, owned by Jay and Mary Lou Standefer, in trial 4, and with Goose Perry, owned by Dennis Jensen, in trial 15. We had 4 third place finishes with The Mentalist, owned by Dennis Jensen, Randy Young, Johnny Lee and Jill Giles, in trial 1, with Wonderous Woman, owned by Mary Lovey Wood, in trial 5, with Seises Royal, owned by Darian Burt, in trial 6, and with First Valentine, owned by David and Ross Hinkins, in trial 9. We had 1 fourth place finish with Dp Desi Diamond, owned by Dan and Patricia Baker, in trial 18. Standy, owned by Jim and Michele Laird, finished 9th in trial 20 after getting bumped and squashed out of the race. And unfortunately, Seperate Heart, owned by Preston Cloud and Karen and Tuggle, C.E., was unable to finish the race in trial 8 and we feel really bad about that. Sorry for your loss.

Goose Perry ran a close 2nd in a time of 21.581 after slipping coming out of the gates in trial 15 and just missed qualifying for the Futurity. However, he did qualify 2nd fastest for the All American Juvenile Invitational.

The 10 qualifiers for the Futurity all came out of trials 12 through 17 with the exception of 1 that came out of trial 3. There were a lot of horses that were expected to qualify for the finals that didn't. It was kind of a wierd day. I guess you never know when there are 20 trials. Our horses ran good, what more can you ask for other than qualifying for the finals. Maybe if he we had run in the better part of the day after the wind switched directions then maybe we could have qualified. Awww.....what could have been. I guess you just get over it and move on to the next race.

The All American Derby trials were held on Friday, August 20th and the day went about the same with horses that were expected to qualify for the finals but didn't. Another wierd day. We had 2 horses entered in the 7 trials. Jess Good, owned by Johnny Lee and Jill Giles, got bumped and squashed out of trial 1 and ended up running 6th. Spotmeacorona, owned by Clifford and Justin Johnson, ran a good first part of the race but in the end ran back in the last trial. Neither qualified for the finals.

Congratulations to those whos horse's ran great. The trials all contained really tough horses and you should be proud of the way your horse(s) ran. And Congratulations and Good Luck to Dennis Jensen! We will see you back in Ruidoso on September 6th for the finals of the All American Juvenile Invitational.

The Last Couple Weeks

It has been a quiet couple weeks with not having much running in Ruidoso with the exception of a couple Maiden races. DP Desi Diamond, owned by Dan and Patricia Baker, ran a good race and broke her maiden on August 5th. Other than that we have been moving horses into The Downs at Albuquerque and preparing for the All American trials which run this week at Ruidoso Downs.

Jill started racing at Albuquerque this last Saturday, August 14th and we are off to a good start with a close 3rd place finish with Chocolate Mountain, owned by Lewis Dillree, in an 870 yard Allowance. We had two 1st place finishes yesterday with Duke McBride, owned by Elizebeth Johnson, in a Claiming race, and Whatever Forever, owned by Kenny Campbell, Jill Giles and Melvin and Mary Neugebauer, who ran an impressive first race breaking his maiden by a length. And today another impressive 1st place finish with RGR Lyon A Tac, owned by David and Ross Hinkins, in a Maiden race winning by a 1/2 length.

The All American Futurity trials are scheduled to run this Thursday, August 19th. We have 10 horses entered in the 20 trials. WOW! We feel like we have really nice horses in the trials and have a good shot at qualifying if everything goes right. It takes luck of drawing the right trial and a flawless race to qualify for what may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for some.

The All American Derby trials are scheduled to run this Friday, August 20th. We have 2 horses entered in the 7 trials that all contain outstanding 3 year olds. They are going to be some really tough trials. But we feel like we have 2 really nice horses and if they run good then hopefully we can get there.

Good luck to those of you who have horses running in the All American trials and we look forward to seeing you out this way! And don't forget that the New Mexico Bred Quarter Horse & Thoroughbred Yearling Sale is the evenings of Friday, August 20th and Saturday, August 21st at Ruidoso Downs after the races.

Zia Weekend

This weekend was Zia Weekend at Ruidoso Downs and it treated us well.

Yesterday, July 31st, was the Master Salls Handicap and we won it with champion Gone To The Mountain, owned by Clyde Woerner, and ran 5th with Chocolate Mountain, owned by Lewis Dillree. Gone To The Mountain ran an impressive race in a time of 44.504 which was the second-fastest 870 yards in Ruidoso Downs history. Chocolate Mountain was forced out 7-wide on the turn and it just wasn't his day.

Gone To The Mountain winning the 2010 Master Salls Handicap

Today, August 1st, was the finals for the Zia Derby and we won it with Here Kittykittykitty, owned by Jay and Mary Lou Standefer. Here Kittykittykitty ran a incredible race on top most of the way against tough company winning by a neck.

Miracle Snow, owned by Melvin and Mary Neugebauer, ran 2nd in the Zia Handicap Stakes which also ran today. Miracle Snow ran a great race also against very tough company. He started a little behind but really gained ground on the end.

Congratulations to all the connections and THANK YOU for making this years Zia Weekend so much FUN!!!
