Dash For Cash Futurity Trials

Last night, September 25th, were the trials for the Dash For Cash Futurity held at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. There were 150 horses that ran in the 16 trials competing for only 10 spots in the finals. We went there with 2 horses.

Unashamed, owned by Melvin and Marty Neugebauer, was in the 10th trial in the 10 hole (supposedly the deepest part of the track). He got off a little slow overcoming it quickly with a powerful finish to win the race by a neck in a time of 19.713 for the 400 yards. His time was the 7th fastest in the first 10 trials. We would have to wait 6 more trials to find out if his time would be good enough to make it back for the finals.

Tres Veses, owned by Lee and Sherwood Partnership, was our second and last shot. She was in the 14th trial in the 8 hole. She unfortunately hopped at the start getting off slow but improved quickly finishing 5th. Dang it, just wasn't her day.

With the 11th and 14th trials posting 3 faster times then Unashamed, we would have to wait and watch the 2 remaining trials while sitting on the bubble in the number 10 spot. This has been familiar territory for us. We have been in this position before. A few times just this year. It's not a fun position to be in and it seems like it's always that last trial that pushes you out and all you can think is "we were so close". While Jason and I watched the last 2 trials on TV, Jill was waiting for a text with the news, and Wes couldn't bear to watch so instead he stayed back at the barn tending to the horses. And we can only imagine what the Neugebauer's must have been feeling at that moment just sitting, watching, and waiting for the outcome.

The last 2 trials ran and this time they were in our favor. They were slower and we are in. Yes!!! Unashamed has qualified for the Dash For Cash Futurity-G1 with a purse of $514,650. The finals will run back on October 9th.

Congratulations to Melvin and Marty Neugebauer and all the connections to Unashamed!
