The Last Couple Weeks

It has been a quiet couple weeks with not having much running in Ruidoso with the exception of a couple Maiden races. DP Desi Diamond, owned by Dan and Patricia Baker, ran a good race and broke her maiden on August 5th. Other than that we have been moving horses into The Downs at Albuquerque and preparing for the All American trials which run this week at Ruidoso Downs.

Jill started racing at Albuquerque this last Saturday, August 14th and we are off to a good start with a close 3rd place finish with Chocolate Mountain, owned by Lewis Dillree, in an 870 yard Allowance. We had two 1st place finishes yesterday with Duke McBride, owned by Elizebeth Johnson, in a Claiming race, and Whatever Forever, owned by Kenny Campbell, Jill Giles and Melvin and Mary Neugebauer, who ran an impressive first race breaking his maiden by a length. And today another impressive 1st place finish with RGR Lyon A Tac, owned by David and Ross Hinkins, in a Maiden race winning by a 1/2 length.

The All American Futurity trials are scheduled to run this Thursday, August 19th. We have 10 horses entered in the 20 trials. WOW! We feel like we have really nice horses in the trials and have a good shot at qualifying if everything goes right. It takes luck of drawing the right trial and a flawless race to qualify for what may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for some.

The All American Derby trials are scheduled to run this Friday, August 20th. We have 2 horses entered in the 7 trials that all contain outstanding 3 year olds. They are going to be some really tough trials. But we feel like we have 2 really nice horses and if they run good then hopefully we can get there.

Good luck to those of you who have horses running in the All American trials and we look forward to seeing you out this way! And don't forget that the New Mexico Bred Quarter Horse & Thoroughbred Yearling Sale is the evenings of Friday, August 20th and Saturday, August 21st at Ruidoso Downs after the races.
