W R CARVER PREVAILS IN FOUR CORNERS FUTURITY
June 19, 2010 – Rose Webb’s homebred W R Carver broke his maiden in style as he got up to a neck victory in the $100,800 Four Corners Futurity (G3) on Saturday at SunRay Park. Trained by Wes Giles, the New Mexico-bred gelding earned a 94 speed index for the 350-yard dash timed in :17.359 with Bonifacio Perez aboard.
W R Carver came into the race with three consecutive runner-up finishes, including the West Texas Juvenile Invitational and his trial for the Four Corners, in which he posted the second-fastest qualifying time. His effort in the final earned him $47,376 and pushed his bankroll over the $60,000 mark. W R Carver is the second stakes winner out of the Lucky Aces N Eights mare La Cassia and also the second stakes winner sired by 2006 AQHA World Champion and freshman sire Wave Carver.
Rockin, a colt by Feature Mr Jess running for Jaime Dominguez and SM Cattle Export Company, took second with the Special Leader son and fastest qualifier The Essentials in third for Bennie Woolley and Fun 4 Racing.
